REGISTERS OF THE IRISH COB SOCIETY NEDERLAND STUD BOOK
According to directive 96/78 EEC,  directions of the Irish Department of Agriculture and Food
and additional demands of the Dutch authorities (Gelding Register)

The Irish Cob Stud book is an "open" Stud book until 1.1.2010 or as much earlier as decided bij The Irish Cob Society.

The Irish Cob Stud Book in The Netherlands contains the following registers:

PREMIER REGISTER (MP)
(approved for breeding)
  • Mares from Progeny Register 1 that passed a premium inspection with a 1st or 2nd premium grading
  • Stallions from Progeny Register 1 that passed a premium inspection with a 1st or 2nd premium grading
BASIC REGISTER (M)
(approved for breeding)
  • (as long as the stud book is open) Inspected Irish Cob Mares with no known parents
  • Mares from Progeny Register 2 that passed a premium inspection with a 1st, 2nd or 3rd premium grading
  • Mares from Progeny Register 1 that passed a premium inspection with a 3rd premium grading
  • Stallions from Progeny register 2 that passed a premium inspection with a 1st or 2nd premium grading (Starting February 2007 inspection: 1st, 2nd or 3rd premium)
GELDING REGISTER (Ruin)
  • Male Cobs older then 3 years, transferred from VB1 or VB2 on a premium inspection after being gelded
PROGENY REGISTER 1 (VB1)
  • Progeny of two Irish Cobs registered in the Basic or Premier register
PROGENY REGISTER 2 (VB2)
  • Progeny with neither, or, one parent approved for breeding
  • (as long as the stud book is open) Stallions with neither, or, no parent known.

(MP) = Main Premium, (M) = Main, (VB1) = VeulenBoek / Foal Book 1, (VB2) = Veulen Boek / Foal Book 2

All Irish Cobs registered in the Basic or Premier Register are approved for breeding Irish Cobs.
Foals of approved parents are entitled to be entered in Progeny Register 1 or 2 and receive an equine passport after being inspected "at the foot of the dam" and payment of the due costs.

To enter a Premium inspection an Irish Cob must
1) be properly registered*) as an Irish Cob in a register of an approved Irish Cob Society stud book
2) have reached the age of 3 years
      

*) Properly registered means:

  1. a correctly filled in and signed covering certificate was handed in before November 31

  2. the foal was showed to a stud book official at the foot of the dam before being weaned

  3. registration in an ICS stud book has taken place and was registered in a valid equine passport

  4. (in case of a stallion) a DNA sample has been registered in a certified laboratory

  5. (in case of a female) a hair sample is stored at the ICS stud book office for verification of parenthood.

Gradings given to foals (foal premiums / veulenpremies) do not count for promotion to another register.
